Raoul du Gardier was a student of Gustave Moreau, Théobald Chartran, Elie Delaunay and Albert Maignan. He first exhibited in Paris in 1897 at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received an honourable mention. He also received a bronze medal at the 1900 Universale Exposition. From then on he regularly participated in the various Salons often receiving acknowledgement and awards. He was also shown at the Salon de Brussels in 1910.
