Michel Georges Michel

Michel Georges-Michel was a prominent figure in the Parisian cafes of Montparnasse and Montmartre in the early twentieth century. As a Jewish artist living during the 'Années Folles', he came to share the vibrant intellectual and artistic life of the Jewish émigré artists and writers including Soutine, Modigliani, Chagall, and Max Jacob. In a vital and vibrant exhibition of this undeservedly under-explored painter, one can see in the witty and whimsical paintings of Parisian scenes something that amounts to much more than any written social history.
