Geoff Uglow: CODA
The works in this exhibtion were made in response to Geoff Uglow's epic voyage across the Scottish coast, from Solway Firth to the Outer Hebrides, Holborn Head and Orkney in 2009. The paintings that arose from his expedition make reference to a rich cultural legacy, following the path once trodden by nineteenth century explorer and artist William Daniell. Nevertheless the Scottish tour is marked by an ambition to move forward, not simply in terms of the physical ground covered, but also in Uglow's development as a painter. As one of the few contemporary artists to take up the subject of the landscape, Uglow's overriding passion lies in realising and extending the possibilities of his chosen medium.
